Jehovah. I am, the external living one.
Is the scriptural designation of a Supreme Being commonly presented as self-derived and permanent existence. God himself revealed this name to the ancient Hebrews.
The Jews held this name so sacred that they would avoid to mention it, save by the high priest once a year on the great Day of Atonement. This custom was an erroneous misinterpretation of Leviticus 24:16. It was concluded by them that the mere mention of God's name will result to a capital offense.
According to a Jewish dictionary: Jehovah is a mispronunciation of the Hebrew “YHWH,” the “e,” “o” and “a” were inserted in an attempt to pronounce the vowels. Click here for the full explanation
Also according to a Catholic Encyclopedia: Jehovah is the proper name of God in the Old Testament.
